Background and Links

E-portfolios are used in many courses across the Polytechnic. They address a number of key focus areas in the current Tasmanian Polytechnic Strategic Plan. Common reasons for using e-portfolios are:
  • collecting and displaying evidence of learning
  • recognition of prior learning
  • reflective practice
  • industry use of folios eg nursing
  • folio of work for potential employer
  • learning communities and mentoring
  • resume building and pathway planning

Online services used for e-portfolios include
  • blogs (eg Blogger or WordPress)
  • wikis (eg Wikispaces)
  • e-portfolio system (eg Mahara)
  • online albums and galleries (eg Flickr or Deviant Art)

The Polytechnic has a representative on the national Eportfolio Reference Group and uses the e-portfolio documents below to inform the provision and use of e-portfolios. The Polytechnic has several instances of the Mahara e-portfolio system all of which are hosted externally.
