E-portfolios are used in many courses across the Polytechnic. They address a number of key focus areas in the current Tasmanian Polytechnic Strategic Plan. Common reasons for using e-portfolios are:
collecting and displaying evidence of learning
recognition of prior learning
reflective practice
industry use of folios eg nursing
folio of work for potential employer
learning communities and mentoring
resume building and pathway planning
Online services used for e-portfolios include
blogs (eg Blogger or WordPress)
wikis (eg Wikispaces)
e-portfolio system (eg Mahara)
online albums and galleries (eg Flickr or Deviant Art)
The Polytechnic has a representative on the national Eportfolio Reference Group and uses the e-portfolio documents below to inform the provision and use of e-portfolios. The Polytechnic has several instances of the Mahara e-portfolio system all of which are hosted externally.

E-portfolios, Australian Flexible learning Framework
The E-portfolios - Managing Learner Information business activity aims to establish a national standards-based approach to the use of e-portfolio technologies for managing learner information, between VET, other educational sectors and employment.
The VET E-portfolio Roadmap was commissioned by the national training system’s e-learning strategy, the Australian Flexible Learning Framework’s national E-portfolio business activity2 in 2008 to assist in the development of a national standards-based framework to support interoperable e-portfolio systems in the national training system.
